Do All Acuras Require Premium Gas?
Did you just buy a new or used Acura in Anaheim and want to know if it needs premium gas to run? Weir Canyon Acura is here to help! Many Acura owners in Costa Mesa wonder if their luxury car needs premium gas to operate, but unless you’re driving an Acura NSX, the answer is: No. Acura does recommend premium gas for the MDX, RDX, TLX, RLX, and ILX so that your vehicle will operate at peak performance, but otherwise your Acura will run on regular gas without issue. That doesn’t mean that premium gas doesn’t come without incentives though, read our guide to see what the difference is between regular and premium gas and what benefits premium gas has to offer.
What’s The Difference Between Regular Gas And Premium Gas?
The octane level is what sets premium and regular gas apart. Gas with a higher octane rating has less of a chance of knocking while you’re driving around Tustin roads. “Knocking” is an internal misfire that occurs when engine combustion happens prematurely. A combustion misfire makes a knocking sound in the engine, giving it the name “engine knocking”.
- Regular: 87 octane rating
- Midrange: 88 to 90 octane rating
- Premium: 91 to 94 octane rating
Why Choose Premium Gas?
If you have a high-performance vehicle that you use for tough jobs or thrilling rides around Montclair, then using premium gas will allow it to perform at its peak potential without the risk of knocking. While most newer vehicles come with engines equipped to resist knocking, using premium gas will lower the risk even more.
