Dashboard Warning Lights

Here are descriptions about what some of the less common dashboard warning lights look like:

Engine Warning Lights:

  • Coolant Temp Warning – This light looks like a thermometer with waves, and when coolant levels are off, your fan isn’t working, or the coolant is leaking, this light will come on.
  • Service Vehicle – Usually this light comes on when an electrical issue occurs and may look like a tool or a vehicle with a wrench in it.
  • Reduced Power Warning – This may look like an engine with an arrow pointing down. You need to have the engine serviced as soon as possible, as there’s some part of it that’s malfunctioning.
  • Cruise Control – The cruise control light looks like a speedometer with an arrow, and will stay illuminated as long as the system is on.

Brake System Warning Lights:

  • Brake System – The brake system light may be a bright BRAKE or circles with exclamations and may sign that the brake fluid is too low or there’s an ABS problem.
  • Traction Control or ESP – This light means your vehicle’s electronic stability system is being utilized and will look like a car with squiggly lines behind the wheels.

Safety & Information Warning Lights:

  • Security Alert – This light will come on if a door is left on or your vehicle ignition is locked.
  • Fog Lamp – This will tell you that your brights are still on.
  • Airbag Fault – Normally, this light appears once the car has been started to indicate there’s a fault in the airbag system, and you’ll need to bring your vehicle in for a repair, it will look like a stick figure buckled in and a ball representing the airbag.
  • Washer Fluid Reminder – This means your washer fluid is low and needs to be replaced.

Tires Warning Lights:

TPMS or the Tire Pressure Monitoring System uses sensors to monitor the tire pressure of all four tires. It will let you know if the tire pressure is too low or too high, and all you need to do is adjust to the proper PSI by putting air into the tires or letting some out.
